As you guys know, at the start of the year I made the decision to be more mindful and intentional when it comes to my clothes and style. I pretty much am working on elevating my style and fashion. Now don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t the worst-dressed or anything like that, I just wanted to put slightly more effort into my clothes. I’ve always loved fashion but always got discouraged by limited access to some of the pieces I was interested in being back home in Namibia. So I pretty much just wore what I had and would randomly buy things that looked good but it wasn’t ever a curated process.
So one of the things I’m doing to curate my wardrobe a little bit more is to be more intentional about updating my closet seasonally. I feel like seasonal updates really allow you to know what’s in your closet and what kind of looks you want to do. Now don’t get me wrong, seasonal updating does not mean throwing everything out every season and repurchasing. It’s pretty much what it says- UPDATING. Throwing out the old, and complementing what remains behind with new pieces.
I was in desperate need of a Summer wardrobe update. I am really into dresses at the moment. They are so easy, and (for the most part) breathable in this insane NYC heat. My memo when shopping for summer dresses is comfortable, not too tight, fun, sophisticated and dynamic.
Missguided has some really pretty summer options that checked all my boxes. Take this pink puff sleeve floral dress. It’s fun, sexy and sophisticated.
Wrap dresses are always a favourite of mine, I love how they cinch the waist perfectly. This polka dot wrap dress is also a firm favourite of mine. Flowy, breathable but not bag lady.
This leopard print smock dress is another favourite of mine. It’s the perfect length, and size and I can style it for the summer or fall time. I particularly like how it’s such a statement piece that you only need a few extra accessories and pieces to switch it up.
