When Jackie Aina first announced that she was launching a luxury candle line, Forvr Mood, I was beyond excited… then I saw the prices and my excitement quickly gave way to financial literacy 101! I was shook at the price, particularly because I wanted all four candles ($125 for the gift set) but sis is saving up for a down payment on a house!
Regardless, I signed up for the pre-order list and when sales opened, all financial prudency went straight out the window. Ultimately, I decided that in the past I’ve bought so many products off of Jackie’s recommendation… she is one of the beauty guru’s that has been around and has been down for black women since the beginning, so it only made sense to support her too!
I ordered the luxury candle gift set which comes with all four candles: Left on read, Matcha business, Cuffing season and Caked up. It was pricey but worth it. The packaging is as sturdy and luxurious as it gets. The candles themselves are beautifully packaged too, gave me luxury vibes.
So let’s talk scents! Caked Up’s scent detail is described as roasted pistachio, musk, almond, cream and honey and smells like cake pops, pistachio ice-cream and vanilla bean. I definitely got these vibes from this candle, cakey, but not too artificially sweet, which is perfect.
Left on Read is supposed to smell like vanilla, nuts, coconut milk and heavy cream, which I may have got a whiff of but this one mostly reminded me of a hotel bathroom… not a bad smell at all but very soft and floral.
Cuffing Season is my absolute favourite! It is described as floral, zesty and citrusy but I love that it feels unisex and perfume like. It definitely feels like a scent that someone can wear and it would leave a lasting impression.
Matcha business was my least favourite, I was expected this one to smell a bit more organic, more planty and fresh, but it’s supposed to smell like coffee, vanilla bean, hazelnut frap and lavender, which are all good elements, but unexpectedly sweet.
Either way, I love Jackie and what she stands for and I am always happy to support another Black queen!
