Walking in the City

I fell in love with New York City through the eyes of Carrie Bradshaw. Fashionable, independent career girl, just living it up in the greatest city in the world! And as I watched episode after episode filled with beautiful dresses and fancy latte’s, I slowly began to picture myself in a tailored suit, latte in one hand, black leather tote in the other, oversized Gucci sunnies and of course designer stiletto heels. Fast forward to 2019, I’m actually living in NYC, loving my job but the gag is firstly, I’m more of a tea girl then a coffee girl, secondly, cross body bags work so much better for someone like me who is always on the move, and finally the kicker: Manhattan streets and stiletto heels are like oil and water!!!

I had to learn the hard way that in NYC, you walk almost everywhere (it’s just more convenient), you will probably stand while on the subway and hailing a cab requires some expertise. So if you value your feet then comfortable, good quality shoes are where it’s at. I wasn’t quite ready to completely sacrifice style so I categorised my shoes by occasion. I know which pair of shoes to wear and when. I also know how to ensure the highest level of comfort when navigating my way around the city.

So: If I’m going to work its always gonna be flats, low block heels or mid-height pumps. If I’m going out in the evening for drinks or something semi-formal, sexy low heels always go really well with a pair of jeans and don’t make my walk to the subway a horror story. And shocker, I wear kitten heels now!!! I promise you, it comes with age, you can’t escape it! I am obsessed with the low clear heel trend that is everywhere! I also now know that heels, like real heels are reserved for dinners that you go to and leave from in an Uber, and not just any Uber, but an Uber that drops you right outside the restaurant. For all other occasions I wear my trusty white Champion Keds!
